Both options don't need to be opposites, customers can become part of your team, and your team members might always be customers. Instead, lead with the appointment, show what you do and why and the rest will follow in time. Then, when you have more of an understanding of what it is you love to do, do that! 

The great thing about this profession is that you can choose what works best for you and finding that answer for yourself can help keep you motivated when things seem hard.
